ARTS Information Sheet

ARTS are advanced research training seminars, held in conjunction with international congresses of psychology, co-sponsored by the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS), the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) and the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP).

Participants in ARTS seminars are scholars primarily from low income / developing countries whose research and scholarship will be enhanced by the ARTS training, and who will be in a position to further develop and disseminate the training in their home countries.

ARTS Seminars take place during the 2-3 days immediately preceding or immediately following an international Congress of Psychology. During the period of the ARTS seminars, accommodation and meals are provided. In addition, participants are allocated a travel stipend of up to $500 (receipts required). It is anticipated that each ARTS participant will supplement this support with funds secured from their own institution or national psychology organization (see below).

In addition it is expected that each ARTS participant will attend the international Congress of Psychology adjacent to the ARTS they attend (for 2010 either the International Congress of Applied Psychology (July 11-16) or the International Congress of Cross Cultural Psychology (July 6-10). Although registration fees for these congresses are waived for ARTS participants, accommodation, subsistence and travel are not covered.

Applications for ARTS are due March 1, 2010, and must be submitted as electronic files to the ARTS Coordinator at sunxh@psych.ac.cn. Decisions will be made by May 1, 2010.

Travel

Each selected ARTS participant will be granted a travel stipend of up to $500 to be applied as reimbursement for travel costs. Participants from low-income countries may also be eligible for modest additional assistance with their travel expenses from ARTS, but must first seek funding from other sources in their home country (university or national granting agency). ARTS funding is limited so that full travel support is unlikely. To apply for these funds submit a travel support application with the ARTS application materials.

To request additional travel assistance include an additional sheet with your application with your name and detailed information about your travel expenses, funding sources and the institutions from which you have sought financial support.

International Congresses

ARTS participants are expected to attend the International Congress immediately following the ARTS sessions. During the international congresses participants are expected to provide for their own expenses (meals and accommodation); no ARTS assistance is provided during the Congress.
